First TT of the year, usual flat(ish) 5 mile route.
Meet outside Drinagh Co-op,Drinagh @ 6.45
All welcome
So we had 3 hardy souls out tonight for some pure pain that is time trialling. T’was a damp one but there was no decernable wind, so no tail or head wind to speak of.
5 miles, Drimoleague to Clashnacrona TT
Simon 16.10
Alex 14.05
Donncha 12.13
Apologies to Podge who arrived on time in Drinagh but we had left early! The next one i will post on the forum and you can leave a comment if your coming so we know to wait or not. Well done to the lads thats good early season times.
For a contrast, August TT 2009
well the DH season has started with a bang last Sunday, the new Organisers Dave Morgan and Rory O’Keefe took what is one of the best venues in the country made a few tweaks and away we went.
the first main talking point before the race once you had signed on early to get the good entry price was which of the 2 tracks was to be used with the Locals putting a lot of work into the “Champs” track. the IDMS crew went with plan C and put a whole new fresh top section onto the “nationals/Gully” track with Multiple Line choice, wide taping everywhere which had most riders scratching their heads during practice which had the track cutting up and changing every run with more Roots and Rocks popping up every Run just to make it interesting on what was a fast technical track to start with.
as for the racing the highlights were Jack Crowley destroying the U-14’s by 21 seconds on his weldon prepared TR450!
after that it was Jacob Dickson in the U-16’s dropping jaw’s putting in the 2nd fastest time OVERALL in seeding and 6th overall in the race itself with a time of 2.06.4. as for the other U-16’s it was Luke Cornforth pipping Ben Kennedy to 2nd by just 0.3 of a second!!!
as for the other West Cork lads Wesley won the battle in Masters finishing in 11th with Richard Thornhill in 22nd after a crash before the last road crossing.
then it was onto the Elites where Ben Reid showed his class taking the win by 5seconds with the only time under 2 minutes from Ewan Doherty fresh back from New Zealand, Greg Callaghan looked smooth all weekend and finished in 3rd with Colin Ross 4th, Dan Sheridan who’s just back from the World Cup in South Africa where Dan finished in 80th rounded off the podium beating Cam Cornforth by just .6 of a second in a tight class.

Round 2 is at a new venue in Mount Leinster in Wexford on the 28/29th of April on what is a Rockfest of a track where momentum is the key.
as it says on the tin the First round of the IDMS is on this weekend…
the track preview vid is here,
here is the vid from the last race on this track.
so its a Fast rooty tech track but with plenty to catch people out and some great corners in the middle section, the chute into the off camber at the start is one of the hardest sections to get right around so will make life interesting.
out of the West Cork crew Wesley and Richie will match up in Masters, the Cornfort bro’s will hope to continue as they left off last year, Luke in U16’s and Cam skipping juniors to race elites and is just back from his first World Cup. so GAME ON!!!!
let ya know how we got on sometime Monday
A link to a road race i did last Sunday in Newbridge, Co Kildare. Do not think we have had road race pics up here before.
Newbridge Grand Prix

results
Alex won juniors despite snapping his chain on the last climb,
Richard came 13th in Baggies after a crap start and getting a stick of doom stuck in the back wheel.
next up is the race in Ballyhoura which should be a good FAST course.
bit of press for the young fella…

Cam is off to South africa for rd 1 of the World cup, probably the hardest track on the legs with the 900m flat sprint in the middle of the track (could stop pedalling for the 60foot tabletops I guess) and 5miutes overall so will be a Huge test of fittness not to mention skill just to get down the rest of it….
go on Cam show em how its done…

had a nice day’s Downhilling in Clashna sunday with Daire O Connor, his Camera, Paul Lenihane and his Go pro as well as Alan Connolly, Eoin and Colm Grant, Alex and meself on the bikes. once we got warmed up after a few runs of C4 Daire got the camera out and the photo shoot started,
here are some of the results…

Big man on one of the top corners on the steep track!
